Who is Christopher Gilmer Ward 2 Area Councillor Candidate?
The future – Responsible Growth in Ward 2
The pulse of Ward 2
Ward 2 Caledon needs strong representation to thrive and survive. We are entering a critical time in our community when our area is expanding. New housing and developments are moving into the land we once knew as expansive fields and green space. Although this land has been designated by the Province as growth areas, we are now faced with making these zones fit in with our landscape and everything we need for growth and strength as a community, yet reflecting on and keeping our values and heritage.
We have a high population of Seniors across Caledon. Over 60% of Caledon’s residents are over 65 years of age. Where do they go to downsize? How can we make sure they stay within the community they love? Its up to us to build and grow our community as a town that respects and grows with our aging population.
Broadband. Some communities take high speed internet for granted. Not us in Caledon. While its true we have ‘spotty’ connections, programs through our library and free wifi at town building make it easier. Being able to connect and work online has never been harder than it is in some locations in our area, especially for those businesses contemplating on moving or starting operations in Town. Laying pipe to connect our communities to the world is an important step to make sure we stay a competitive in the global marketplace.
Access to local transportation has been a topic of discussion across Caledon for quite some time. In older communities, and especially newer communities across Mayfield West. Is it feasible for our 70k residents to fund a transportation system? Or do we search for smarter solutions?
And finally, community. In a community that has many smaller villages, we tend to stick to what we know, and where we live. Yet these communities within the town we live all have very unique and special qualities. Being able to cross promote activities and happenings will bring us all that much closer together.
